First bag in a Feminism is.. series is here!

Mega happy with this new bag, the first one - of hopefully many - in a ‘Feminism is..’ series.

The bag features a picture of Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run a marathon in the US, accompanied by a text that reads: 'Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.'

This quote is from Cheris Kramarae, an American scholar in the area of women's studies and communication, who is mostly known for her contributions to 'Muted group theory', a communication theory that focuses on how marginalised groups are muted and excluded via the use of language.

The full text on the bag reads:

In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon in the USA.

After realizing that a woman was running, the organiser of the race went after her shouting, 'Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.' However, Switzer completed the marathon, becoming the first woman in history to finish the race with a running number. After this, Switzer went on to have a very successful running career, highlighted by a victory at the New York City Marathon in 1974 and became an advocate for women's rights in sports.

In 2016, the Boston Marathon had 12,166 female finishers and 14,463 male finishers.

'Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.'

Cheris Kramarae, 1938, is an American scholar in the area of women's studies and communication. She is mostly known for her contributions to 'Muted group theory', a communication theory that focuses on how marginalised groups are muted and excluded via the use of language as well as 'A feminist Dictionary', of which she was a co-author.

A bag that is not only handy but also a great way to spread information and educate people in a playful way. And - obviously - using a cotton bag instead of a plastic bag is also good for the environment.

Get your self one, or even better, buy a few to give away as intelligent Christmas presents that counteract all the meaningless/overfed bllsht!
